Most good ideas don’t start at a desk. For Dart Frog, the spark didn’t happen in a quiet studio or a boardroom. It happened on the saddle of a single-speed bike, grinding through the wind on the streets of Melbourne.

The Name and the Ride
Fun fact: when the name Dart Frog first came to mind, the vision was strictly for the bicycle world. Deep in the Melbourne cycling scene, the original plan was to build something specifically for the riders on the street.
But as the idea grew, it became clear the name meant something bigger. It was a nod to the Poison Dart Frog—a biological masterpiece. It’s tiny, neon-bright, and incredibly dangerous. Its colors aren’t for show; they are nature’s ultimate warning: “I am small, but do not mess with me.” ### From the Lab to the Line That biological precision eventually moved into Art Direction, where years were spent obsessing over the "perfect crop" and the weight of a font until it hit just right. But there is a second, sharper edge to this story.
Before the label, the rules were forged in the high-pressure world of professional kitchens. The brand’s director spent years in the weeds of intense services, most notably as the Sous Chef at Alma for three years. It was one of many kitchens, but easily the most meaningful.
A kitchen like Alma is all heat, timing, and raw intensity. There’s no “undo” button during a dinner service—you either get it right, or you fail. The chef’s knife was eventually traded for a design canvas, but that kitchen grit—the refusal to settle for "good enough"—is baked into every garment.
The Amsterdam Epiphany
In 2019, the final piece of the puzzle clicked in the heart of Amsterdam.
Walking into Wituka, everything changed. Seeing how they treated a T-shirt like a piece of art—something with community, purpose, and a soul—was the turning point. That was the moment Dart Frog stopped being just a "cycling idea" and started taking shape as a brand with a mission. Amsterdam stripped away the fluff and refined the vision: apparel should be a tactile canvas for a bold mindset. Simple, high-quality, and loud.
Home in Geelong
In 2021, Dart Frog found its permanent home in Geelong.
The city has a unique pulse—a mix of industrial grit and coastal soul. It’s a place that values authenticity and hard work, mirroring the values forged in the kitchen and on the streets.
By 2025, after eight years of simmering, the journey reached its peak. Dart Frog is the culmination of a decade-long climb. It is the curation of a Biologist, the eye of an Art Director, and the resilience of a Chef.
